Welcome to the City of Ann Arbor Fire Operations

Welcome to the City of Ann Arbor Fire Department
Proudly serving the residents of Ann Arbor Since 1889

Your Fire Department and our Community have tremendous opportunities and challenges ahead that will be met with preparation and decisiveness. The men and women of the Ann Arbor Fire Department, know the importance of our delivery of emergency services to the community. Our mission of public education, emergency medical care and fire suppression is very important and we  strive everyday to deliver excellence. You expect and demand that we accomplish our mission in a fiscally prudent manner and we take our responsibilities for maintaining your trust extremely serious. However, regardless of how well we are doing, we constantly look for ways to improve our service delivery capabilities by reevaluating our operations and structure to deliver even greater effectiveness. There is no room for complacency at the Ann Arbor Fire Department, we will always push hard to exceed your expectations while stretching your tax dollars as far as humanly possible.

Your Fire Department has a well-trained workforce of men and women committed to delivering excellence to you.  We encourage you to visit one of your Ann Arbor fire stations and meet with your firefighters. We trust the experience will be mutually rewarding. If ever our staff may be of assistance, please contact our offices at 734-794-6961.

I have no ambition in this world but one, and that is to be a fireman.  The position may, in the eyes of some, appear to be a lowly one; but we who know the work which the fireman has to do believe that his is a noble calling.  There is an adage which says that, "Nothing can be destroyed except by fire."  We strive to preserve from destruction the wealth of the world, which is the product of the industry of men, necessary for the comfort of both the rich and the poor.  We are defenders from fires of the art which has beautified the world, the product of the genius of men and the means of refinement of mankind.  But, above all, our proudest endeavor is to save lives of men - the work of God Himself.  Under the impulse of such thoughts, the nobility of the occupation thrills us and stimulates us to deeds of daring, even at the supreme sacrifice.  Such considerations may not strike the average mind, but they are sufficient to fill to the limit our ambition in life and to make us serve the general purpose of human society”.
