 Emergency Contact Information

Telecommunications Disruptions

In the event we experience widespread telecommunications disruptions or failures (again attributable to any variety of causative factors), the following is a list of prioritized suggestions as to how contact may be made with the safety forces:

IF, DUE TO AN EMERGENCY, YOU ATTEMPT TO USE "911" AND YOU GET NO CONNECTION, HANG UP AND RE-DIAL THE DIRECT EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER for the Ann Arbor Fire Department (734) 477-6490 or Ann Arbor Police Department (734) 994-2911.   There are several lines associated with the non-emergency number listed, which automatically roll over to other numbers not being used.  The Ann Arbor Fire Department non-emergency number is (734) 477-6490, this number may be utilized for citizen assist requests.  The non-emergency number for the Police Department is (734) 994-2911.  Minor complaints such as criminal mischief reports, barking dogs, and private property accident reports where no injuries occur are non-emergency type events that can wait several hours if not several days to report, particularly in times of a community crisis.  You can stop by the Ann Arbor Police Station 24 hours a day at a later, more convenient date to file any type of report.  Be considerate of the fact that the Station Personnel must handle emergency services first.  Allow common sense to prevail, and please be patient.

If you are unable to make any connection with the Ann Arbor Police Department "911" or the Non-Emergency line, which is (734) 994-2911, call the Ann Arbor Fire Department at (734) 477-6490.

IF YOUR EVERYDAY PHONE SYSTEM FAILS TO FUNCTION AND YOU POSSES A CELL-PHONE, THEN DIAL THE FOLLOWING NUMBERS DIRECTLY IF YOU WISH TO REPORT AN EMERGENCY, IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER OF PRIORITY:

Ann Arbor Police Department 911

(734) 994-2911

Ann Arbor Fire Department 911

(734) 477-6490

Emergency Medical Services 911

(734) 994-2911

(734) 477-6490

Note: "911" can certainly be dialed, however, cell-phone dialing of "911" is routed through the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s dispatch system, versus directly connected to the city dispatch center.  It’s important to know the EXACT LOCATION of where you are when you call!
