Safety Tips for a Safe Summer

FIRE PREVENTION BUREAU ACTIVITIES

The Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for providing inspection services to the community of Ann Arbor. These services include preconstruction site plan reviews, construction final inspections, and existing commercial building inspections. Existing commercial buildings and businesses have become accustomed to seeing the Bureau staff in the role of fire safety inspectors and consultants.

The Bureau is also responsible for investigating all complex, fatal, and suspicious fires including all arsons and fire related crimes within the City.  Determining the origin and cause of a fire plays an integral role in preventing future incidents. Bureau personnel remain on-call 24 hours a day to respond to fire incidents.

A special emphasis is placed on Community Fire Safety Education by the Bureau. To this end, we touched over 4,000 individuals in 2011 with lectures, discussions, station tours, school visits and many other awareness functions.
