Georgetown Boulevard Improvement Project
Project was completed in July of 2010
Last Updated: 02/03/11
Project Overview
The existing 8-inch water main at Georgetown Boulevard, located at the median, is in poor condition, has experienced excessive breaks in the past, and must be replaced. The northbound traffic lanes between Plymouth Road and Bluett Drive are also in a poor condition and must be resurfaced.
The final design addresses both water main and poor pavement condition and includes the following:
1. Replacement of approximately 2800 feet of 8-inch ductile iron water main along the east curb of the Georgetown Boulevard from Plymouth Road to Bluett Drive. The replacement of the water main will result in brief interruptions in service to the residences. Residents will be notified in advance of such interruptions.
2. Reconstructuion of northbound lanes at Georgetown Boulevard from Plymouth Road to Bluett Drive.
Public Meeting
On March 31, 2010 at Clague Middle School, City staff presented the project and answered questions. About 10 people attended
Schedule
Currently the construction is scheduled to begin in early May. Construction staking and videotaping, as well as “Miss Dig” utility marking, may occur prior to that time. The entire project is expected to be completed by mid-August.
Impact on Traffic & Local Residents
During construction the east side of Georgetown Boulevard from Plymouth Road to Bluett Drive will be closed in order to allow construction to proceed. The west side of the Georgetown Boulevard will have one lane of traffic in each direction.
Due to the limited amount of space it will be necessary for our contractor to post temporary “No Parking” signs along the Georgetown Blvd. Access to driveways will mostly be maintained during construction. If a need arises to temporarily restrict access to a driveway, the contractor or a City representative will knock on residents’ doors to make sure the driveway does not need to be accessed during that time.
Garbage/recycling collection and mail delivery will be maintained throughout the project.
Progress Updates
As of now, the contractor has completed installation of the new 8" water main. All residents have been switched from the old main to the new main. During this process some residents experienced slight discoloration of the water, which is normal. We recommend running cold water in your house for 5 to 10 minutes, until the water is clear. Right now the contractor is working on the reconstruction of the street, which includes the installation of new curb, drive approaches and pavement. We anticipate the project will be completed on schedule.
