The City of Ann Arbor requires the use of carts for the curbside collection of refuse and provides optional carts for the seasonal curbside collection of compost.
CITY COMPOST CARTS AVAILABLE
Compost carts offer a convenient option for handling residential yard debris.
-
City-authorized municipal compost carts (96-, 64-, or 35-gallon size) are available for a one-time price of $50 each. Interested residents may order and pick up their selected compost carts from the city's Customer Service Center, 220 E. Huron, (734) 994-7336 (99-GREEN), open weekdays, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
-
THREE SIZES OF COMPOST CARTS ARE AVAILABLE @$50
COMPOSTABLE PROGRAM
-
Paper bags and bundled brush continue to be accepted--in addition to compost carts--for holding acceptable compostable materials. See the compost program page for full details.
-
Effective Tuesday, July 1, 2008, 30-35 gallon resident-supplied compost cans will no longer be collected from curbside-serviced locations.
-
Grass clippings are accepted in compost carts, but not in yard waste bags, based on City Council action July, 2008.
-
What can you do with old trashcans? You may choose to reuse the cans at home for storage of birdseed, garden or sport equipment, mulches, etc. Some residents may wish to use cans for on-site yard waste collection in your yard, and empty the cans into the wheeled cart for curbside collection. A diagram of converting usable trash cans into rain barrels is posted below under "additional information."
