 Recycling Dos and Don'ts 

 
  Materials accepted for curbside recycling:  

Ø    Place in Containers recycling cart or bin:   

·        Milk boxes and drink boxes

·        #1 and #2 plastic, bottles only (must have a neck)

·        Aluminum cans

·        Aluminum foil and pie tins

·        Steel cans

·        Aerosol cans, empty only

·        Glass bottles and jars, all colors

·        Ceramics, including Pyrex®

Bottles & Cans

All containers must be empty and rinsed. Remove and discard all plastic lids. 

Ø    Place in Paper recycling cart or tote:

·        Cardboard boxes--corrugated (flatten and fold to 3’ X 2’)

·        Boxboard (including flattened cereal, cracker and tissue boxes)

·        Office paper (white copy paper)

·        Mixed paper (all colors)

·        Envelopes, all colors (no Tyvek® envelopes)

·        “Junk” mail and telephone books

·        Magazines, paperback books, catalogs

·        Newspapers (including advertising inserts)

·        Brown paper bags (no plastic bags)  

Materials NOT accepted for recycling:

The following materials may NOT be placed in recycling containers:

·        Styrofoam (no packing peanuts or egg cartons)*

·        Hard back books*

·        #1 and #2 plastic containers that are NOT bottles

·        #3, #4, #5, #6 or #7 plastic containers

·        Bottles for petroleum-based products (i.e. oil quarts)

·        Plastic grocery bags*

·        Computers*

·        Monitors and printers*

·        Computer disks*

·        Audio or video tapes*

·        Printer cartridges*

·        Cell phones and electronics*

·        Televisions and appliances (Freon and non-Freon)*

·        Fluorescent light tubes or bulbs*

·        Automotive fluids or parts, including oil filters*

·        Plastic wrapping or plastic packing inserts

·        Waxed, coated cardboard

·        Wood or plastic pallets

·        Shoes and textiles*

*These items may be recycled at the Drop-Off Station, located at 2950 East Ellsworth Road, just west of Platt Road. For a complete list of items accepted at the Drop-Off Station, call (734) 971-7400 or visit www.recycleannarbor.org.
