Compost and Mulch Sales 

Materials Available at the Drop-Off Station and Municipal Compost Center

City of Ann Arbor-produced screened compost and shredded wood mulch is for sale at the Drop-Off Station, as available for self-loaded bushel and cubic yard sales.* Yard waste may be dropped for $15/cubic yard or $2/bag.   *prices are subject to change without notice.

Large quantities of mechanically loaded bulk compost and mulch are handled at the Muncipal Compost Center and MRF Scalehouse, located at the W. R. Wheeler Service Center, 4150 Platt Road.  A tarp is required for all loads.  Hours of operation are Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.  During April, May, and June, the Compost Center is also open on Saturdays from 8:00 AM - Noon.    Please call ahead at 734-971-8600 to confirm availability of screened material and mulch. In general, the same prices listed above from the DOS apply to the Compost Center. The exceptions follow: 

SPECIAL for Ann Arbor residents at the Compost Center, 4170 Platt Road, with valid drivers license are also permitted to 

• Drop off grass clippings and yard waste up to one cubic yard (approx six 30-gallon paper yard waste bags or bundles) at no charge at the Compost Center. 

• Purchase wood mulch for $10/cubic yard, as available. 

NEW product available to all interested buyersfrom the Compost Center:  Grade "B" compost, partially-processed, unscreened humus, suitable for commercial blending operations is available in bulk sales of >10 cubic yards loaded into a single vehicle for $10/cubic yard. 

Recent Ann Arbor municipal compost test results from the U.S. Composting Council are available.
