 Purchase Compost and Mulch

Compost is created from the natural decomposition of plant materials. Adding compost to landscapes and gardens improves soil texture and balances water retention. Heavy clay soils become lighter with the addition of organic matter and sandy soils become less porous. Plant roots thrive in compost-enriched soils.

The City of Ann Arbor's compost and wood mulch (as available) are sold to the public at the following two locations.

For 2+ cubic yards of materials:
The City of Ann Arbor Compost Center, At the Wheeler Service Center, 4150 Platt Road, 48108 - 734.794.6380
This site is operated by WeCare Organics. Transactions are handled at the city’s Scalehouse, open weekdays 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Special spring Saturday hours are April, May, June non-holiday Saturdays 8 a.m. – Noon. Checks and credit cards accepted only; no cash.

The Compost Center handles compost, mulch, and yard waste (compostables) transactions for 2+ cubic yards per visit, per vehicle. Customers pre-pay at the MRF scalehouse at 4150 Platt Road and are directed where to unload or pick-up materials at designated area.
