 Compostables Drop-off 

 

Yard waste and compostables (including grass clippings, fruit and vegetable scraps, and uncoated paper plates, cups and napkins) can be dropped off at the following two locations.

The City of Ann Arbor Compost Center, At the Wheeler Service Center, 4150 Platt Road, 48108 - 734.489.4518
This site is operated by WeCare Organics. All transactions must start at the city’s MRF Scalehouse, open weekdays 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Special spring Saturday hours are April, May, June non-holiday Saturdays 8 a.m. – Noon. Checks and credit cards are accepted only.

The Compost Center handles compost, mulch, and yard waste (compostables) transactions for 2+ cubic yards per visit, per vehicle. Customers pre-pay at the MRF scalehouse at 4150 Platt Road (734.794.6380) and are directed where to unload or pick-up materials at designated area. Ann Arbor resident discounts explained below.*

  • Grass, Leaves (no brush) drop-off: $12/cubic yard
  • Untreated wood waste, brush $15/cubic yard
  • Chipped untreated wood, $5/cubic yard

*SPECIAL Ann Arbor fall leaves drop-off at the Compost Center.Bulk leaves are accepted at the Compost Center at no charge from Ann Arbor residents and their designated haulers on non-holiday weekdays from September 1 through December 31. Details are posted online at www.a2gov.org/leaves.

Accepts smaller quantities of compostable materials, too:
Recycle Ann Arbor’s Drop-Off Station (DOS), 2950 E. Ellsworth Road,
at Platt Road in Ann Arbor, MI  48108, 734.971.7400,
www.recycleannarbor.org.
The DOS is open 3 days/week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (non-holidays). Cash, Visa, MasterCard payments only.

The DOS is the City of Ann Arbor’s designated location for handling all yard waste drop-off and compost/mulch sales up to 2 cubic yards per visit. Two or more cubic yards are handled at the Compost Center. The DOS accepts Compostables in paper yard waste bags and bulk cubic yards and sells compost and mulch by the self-loaded bushel and mechanically-loaded cubic yards to all interested customers. Ann Arbor residents showing proof of residency ( e.g., a current water bill) will have the $3 DOS entry fee waived. Customers pay at the DOS gatehouse and proceed to the designated sites for drop-off or pick-up. The DOS accepts additional materials not taken at the Compost Center, including separated stumps, larger logs, and painted or treated lumber, etc.  Prices are posted at www.recycleannarbor.org 

*SPECIAL City resident compostable drop-off discount at the DOS. Ann Arbor residents may deliver up to one cubic yard of acceptable yard waste materials including undecorated Christmas trees, per visit, at no charge, year-round to the DOS.
