The city provides municipal solid waste refuse, recycling, and compost collection and processing services. All residents and businesses are eligible for weekly recycling collection at no additional charge. Ann Arbor is recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as having one of the top twenty waste reduction programs in North America.
Announcements
There will be no trash or recycling collection in the City of Ann Arbor on Monday, September 1, Labor Day. The normal Monday routes will be picked up one day later, on Tuesday, and continue on day delayed throughout the week, with the normal Friday routes collected on Saturday. City Hall offices and the Drop-Off Station will also be closed on this holiday. Link to all 2008 collection observed holidays.
Curbside compost collection updates: Resident-supplied 30-35 gallon compost can pickup ended June 30, 2008. Unwanted compost cans will be collected by the city on normal curbside trash collection days, the week of September 15-19, 2008. Compost will continue to be collected in paper bags and as bundled branches. Optional compost carts are available for sale. As of July 7, 2008, the city will begin picking up grass clippings only from city-authorized compost carts. Link to more information on compost carts.
