Help Us Speak For the Trees
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the draft recommendations for the Urban and Community Forest Management Plan through the online survey, public meeting and A2 Open City Hall. The overall response to the draft recommendations was very positive. We continue to review the results in more detail and will make changes to the recommendations based on the feedback received.
Please scroll down to "Public Engagement" to view a presentation of the survey results and to find out more information on the planning process.
What is the urban forest?
The urban forest is all of the woody vegetation growing in an urban area, including trees, shrubs, and vines found along city streets, public parks and private property. The City is responsible for managing an urban forest that contains over 40,000 street trees and 6,600 park trees (mowed areas).
Ann Arbor's First Urban & Community Forest Management Plan
We are developing our first Urban & Community Forest Management Plan to provide a framework for effective management of the city's urban forest as an asset, consistent with the values and needs of the community. Ann Arbor’s city managed urban forest provides $4.6 million in benefits each year to the city and its residents; the plan will help to maintain a sustainable urban forest that maximizes these benefits. Please check back for updates on the development of the Urban Forest Management Plan and ways that you can be part of the planning process.
