What is the urban forest?
The urban forest is all of the woody vegetation growing in an urban area, including trees, shrubs, and vines found along city streets, public parks and private property. The City is responsible for managing an urban forest that contains over 40,000 street trees and 6,600 park trees (mowed areas).
Ann Arbor's First Urban & Community Forest Management Plan
The City of Ann Arbor is developing its first Urban Forest Management Plan to provide a framework for effective management of the City's urban forest as a community asset, consistent with the values and needs of its residents. Ann Arbor’s City managed urban forest provides $4.6 million in benefits each year to the City and its residents; the plan will help to maintain a sustainable urban forest that maximizes these benefits.
