 Online Water Bill Payment Option

A new, green environmental feature is now available for Ann Arbor water customers to view and pay water bills online using a credit card through a secure, fee-free transaction. If a customer also chooses to receive water bills by e-mail, there is the potential to eliminate tons of paper waste and reduce the carbon emissions from the associated paper manufacturing, shipping, printing, and mailing of over 100,000 water bills annually. Customers may rest assured in regards to the handling of sensitive banking and credit card information because the financial side of the payment is routed through a secure portal at JPMorgan Chase Bank.

The online water payment mechanics are easy. First-time users will need to have their water bill account number (from the water bill) and credit card ready to register for the first (and only) time at this link.

The user will then be able to view an Account Summary Screen containing their water billing address (or listing several addresses for people with multiple properties and water accounts). By selecting “More info,” customers will see a detailed invoice for each account. The PDF column on each invoice screen opens into a full water bill statement—identical to the mailed invoice that customers are used to seeing in the past.

There are also optional online links to information on the customer’s bill payment history, water newsletters, and access to the city’s innovative and nationally-recognized water consumption tracking data system, which provides the actual daily/monthly/annual water use by address. This last feature allows customers to see trends in their personal water use and helps identify ways to conserve water in the future, such as by more closely monitoring and reducing lawn watering during the summer.

The city’s online water bill payment process is similar to making secure transactions with other online payments. A special feature in the city’s water bill program allows customers to select an actual payment date in order to have a credit card billed on a date that works best for cash flow and still meets the on-time discount. Every charge transaction will receive an electronic confirmation of payment.
