Building Code Variances:
The purpose of the Building Board of Appeals is to hear variance requests from the requirements of the State Building, Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing Codes.
This board also addresses nuisance buildings within the City of Ann Arbor to ensure properties that are not in compliance with the Dangerous Building Ordinance, Chapter 105, become code compliant, get approved for renovations or are approved for demolition.

Completed applications should be submitted to the Administrative Specialist a minimum of 4 weeks prior to the meeting date to allow adequate time to process according to the laws, guidelines and regulations.
The application fee for "single-family" residential homes is $250.
The application fee for "all other buildings" is $500.
Meeting Schedule & Location:
The Building Board of Appeals meetings are typically held the second Thursday of the month. They are located at 301 East Huron Street, Larcom City Hall, in the Council Chambers on the 2nd Floor. There is on-street metered parking available along Ann St. (2 hour maximum) or parking structures at Ann & Main and Fourth and Washington for your convenience.
