Basic Skills Ice Skating
The Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation Services Unit Instructional Skating Program is an official participant of the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Test Program. This is a series of nationally administered badge tests used to measure skating skills. These tests provide a non-competitive way of measuring skating skills and a feeling of self-achievement.
All students enrolled in our Kinderskate, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced classes will be tested on the badge skills and awarded badges when the skills have been successfully completed. Badge testing for adults is optional.
Note: All participants will have several chances to demonstrate each skill that must be mastered before moving on to the next level. All participants must register with USFSA (United States Figure Skating Association.) A one-time fee of $12 is good from September thru August. The fee can be paid at time of registration.
Class Groups
Students are grouped by age and ability in groups of approximately 10. Each group has its own instructor. Students ages 6 and older who have never earned U.S. Figure Skating badges. Please register for a beginner class until such time as the skater has earned the badges needed to qualify for a more advanced class.
