Join us for Huron River Day on Sunday July 12th from 12-4 p.m. in Gallup Park.  For more information check out the Huron River Day website!

Gallup & Argo Canoe Liveries offer a number of programs and activities throughout the year.  Programs are geared toward outdoor adventures and exploration on the river and in our river parks. Join a program at the Ann Arbor Canoe Liveries to explore the river environment, discover a new hobby, make new friends and to have some fun!

Come on down to the river for spring and summer adventures on the water!  Each week we will explore the river world by paddling a kayak, canoe or paddleboat on Gallup Pond.  The children will experience the thrill of catching fish off the docks and discovering our river critters with stories, art, and play to round out the fun.  Sign up for one or more of the month long sessions!  Pre-registration required.

Public auction of used and damaged boats.  Featured this year are double and single kayaks along with our aluminum canoes

Evening Bird Walk
Friday, May 15

Free, all ages, no pre-registration
Join City Ornithologist Dea Armstrong as she leads a walk to look for birds in the evening in the Gallup  Park and Furstenberg Nature Areas.

Carp Art & Paddle
Sunday, May 17
1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
$18/boat, all ages welcome, pre-registration required
Each spring as the river warms hundreds of carp swim to the shallows of Gallup Pond to spawn.  Paddling canoes & kayaks we will search for carp fins and tails as they swirl through the pond and around our boats.  Create carp art with a fish shape banner or flag to take home and fly out front of your house.

Red Fish Blue Fish Teach Kids to Fish

$5/child, all ages welcome with an adult, pre-registration required
Join us for the State of Michigan's Free Fishing Weekend for all fishing license fees are waived this weekend.  Michigan offers some of the finest freshwater fishing in the world with more than 36,350 miles of rivers and streams.  Fishing poles, bait and instruction are provided.  So grab a pole and your family and friends, and let's go fishing!

Summer Solstice Paddle on Gallup Pond

Celebrate the beginning of summer out on the Huron River!  The Gallup Canoe Livery stays open late on this special longest day of the year for fun paddling on 2.5 mile long Gallup Pond.

Free Fun for Everyone
Come celebrate the wonderful Huron River!  The festivities begin in the morning with the Gallup Gallop Run and a guided paddle trip.  The afternoon activities include canoe/kayak/paddleboat reduced rental rates, children's activities, live animal programs, river exhibits, musical entertainment and much more.

Turtle Paddle

Explore the wetlands and waters of the Huron River as we search for Michigan turtles while paddling a canoe or kayak.

Full Moon Paddle on Gallup Pond

What could be more wonderful than paddling a canoe under the light of the moon?  As we watch the wildlife settle in for the night, the moon will rise to light our way as you float up and down Gallup Pond. The Gallup Canoe Livery stays open late on this special summer night.

Bonfire & Full Moon Paddle on Argo Pond
Saturday, May 30
7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
$18/boat, no pre-registration required, bring a flashlight

Paddle a canoe or kayak up to a blazing fire floating in the middle of Argo Pond!  Venture out on the water at night with only firelight to guide your way.  The Argo Canoe Livery stays open late on this special dark night for paddling on 2 mile Argo Pond. 

Introduction to Kayaking
Saturday, May 16 & Monday, June 1st
May 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. & June 1 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
$140, for ages 14 years and older, pre-registration required
Introduction to Kayaking is a seven-hour course focusing on skills needed for any type of kayak including but not limited to sit on tops, recreational (with bulkheads), and touring/sea kayaks.  Presentations include dressing to paddle safely and potential paddling hazards.  Basic paddle strokes and maneuvers are taught.  Simple rescues are demonstrated by the instructor combined with the paddling skills practiced by students to maneuver safely and comfortable on still water.  The course will be presented in two sessions.  The first session will be in the indoor environment of Mack Pool followed by the second session outdoors on Argo Pond.  All gear is provided.

Beginning QuickStart Kayaking
Monday, June 8
6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
$60, for ages 14 years and older, pre-registration required
QuickStart is a brief, three-hour introduction to paddling a kayak.  Students are presented with basic information on dressing to paddle safely, potential hazards and simple rescues.  A minimal paddle skill set is presented and practiced, allowing students to safely and comfortably maneuver on still water.  While designed as a stand-alone, introductory course, QuickStart students often progress (strongly recommended) to the Introduction to Kayak course to acquire greater paddling skill through significantly more guided, on-water practice time.  All gear is provided.

Star Gazing on Argo Pond
Saturday, July 18
8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
$18/boat, no pre-registration required, bring a flashlight

Let the stars guide your way as you paddle up and down the Huron River on 2-mile long Argo Pond.  Each boat will be provided with a star chart.
