Fiscal Year 20​​​25 Budget Process 

Fiscal year 2025 begins on July 1, 2024, and ends June 30, 2025. City Council members can only adopt one fiscal year at a time, even though the city plans for multi-year budgets.

Budget timeline:  

March 11, 2024:  City Council Work Session FY25 Budget Planning

April: In accordance with City Charter, the city administrator's recommended fiscal year 2025 budget is submitted to City Council in April. City Council members can only adopt one fiscal year at a time even though the city plans for multi-year budgets.

May: City Council, with at least seven affirmative votes, will vote to adopt the budget at its meeting on May 20.

Fiscal Years 2024/2025 Budget Process 

The city's two-year budget planning process has been finalized for fiscal years 2024 and 2025. Fiscal year 2024 begins on July 1, 2023, and ends Jun​e 30, 2024. City Council members can only adopt one fiscal year at a time, even though the city plans for multi-year budgets.

Budget timeline:  

April: In accordance with City Charter, the city administrator's recommended fiscal year 2024 budget is submitted to City Council on April 17, 2023. City Council members can only adopt one fiscal year at a time even though the city plans for multi-year budgets.

May: City Council, with at least seven affirmative votes, voted to adopt the budget at its meeting on May 15.

Fiscal Year 2023 Budget 

Fiscal year 2023 began on July 1, 2022, and ends June 30, 2023. It is the second year of a two-year budget plan. City Council members can only adopt one fiscal year at a time even though the city plans for multi-year budgets.

Budget timeline:

Feb. 14: City Administrator Area, Finance, Police, Fire, Community Services and Courts.

Feb. 28: Pension, Ann Arbor Housing Commission and SmartZone/LDFA.

March 14:  Public Services, Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and the City Attorney's Office.

March 28: Other FY23 budget information, as needed. 

​April: In accordance with City Charter, the city administrator's recommended fiscal year 2023 budget is submitted to City Council on April 18, 2022. City Council members can only adopt one fiscal year at a time even though the city plans for multi-year budgets.

​May: City Council, with at least seven affirmative votes, must adopt the budget no later than its second meeting in May (May 16).

Fiscal Year​ 2022/23 Budge​​t Process

​Budget planning discussions for fiscal years 2022 and 2023 will begin with City Council work sessions in 2021. Fiscal year 2022 begins on July 1, 2021, and ends June 30, 2022. City Council members can only adopt one fiscal year at a time even though the city plans for multi-year budgets.

On Sept. 21, 2020, City Council passed resolution R-20-374 to Conduct a 2020 Budget Priorities Citizen Survey to Inform Development of the City’s FY22 Budget and FY23 Financial Plan via The National Research Center.

Fiscal Year 2020/21 Budget Process

Budget planning discussions for fiscal years 2020 and 2021 begin with City Council Work Sessions in 2019. Fiscal year 2020 begins on July 1, 2019 and ends June 30, 2020. City Council members can only adopt one fiscal year at a time even though the city plans for multi-year budgets.

On Sept. 4, 2018 City Council passed Resolution R-18-360​​ to engage the professional services of The Center for Priority Based Budgeting (CPBB) to conduct a Priority Based Budgeting Survey for the City of Ann Arbor to assist in developing the city budget and spending priorities.   

On Dec. 17, 2018, City Council passed R-18-498, which directed the city to design and conduct a scientifically-based and statistically valid follow-up survey of Ann Arbor residents only that is specifically focused on citizen preferences for utilization of the Washtenaw County Mental Health and Public Safety Millage proceeds. 

On April 1, 2019, City Council passed R-19-0565, which directed the City Administrator to Provide Additional Funding in the FY20/21 Budget and Financial Plan to Address Affordable Housing, Climate Action, and Pedestrian Safety and Provide SMART Performance Outcomes.

Fiscal Year 2019 Budget Process

March 12, 2018 - Council Work Session discussion with staff to discuss FY2019 Budget and Cost of Services/Rates will be held at Larcom City Hall, Council Chambers 2nd Floor, 301 E. Huron St. 7 p.m. Staff will present on topics including recommended financial policy changes, capital financing, General Fund projections, water rates, and solid waste services. Fiscal Year 2014 Budget 

On Monday, December 10, 2012, City Council held a planning session, which included a financial overview presentation for fiscal years 2014 and 2015.

Fiscal Year 2013 Budget

Fiscal year 2013 begins on July 1, 2012 and ends June 30, 2013. This is the second year of the two-year budget presented to Council in May of 2011 by the City Administrator. City Council members can only adopt one fiscal year at a time even though the city plans for multi-year budgets.

Budget Timeline: 
February - March: Council Work Sessions were scheduled for February 13 and March 12.  
April: In accordance with City Charter, the City Administrator's Recommended FY2013 Budget is submitted to City Council on or before April 15, 2012.
May: City Council, with at least seven affirmative votes, must adopt the budget no later than its second meeting in May.

Fiscal Year 2012 Budget

On Saturday, December 4, 2010, City Council held a work session to begin fiscal year 2012 and 2013 budget discussions and prepare staff priorities. This budget discussion regarding sustainable city services will continue at a Council offsite meeting on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011. In addition, several Council Work Session have been scheduled to continue public budget discussions. Fiscal year 2012 begins on July 1, 2011 and ends June 30, 2012.
