​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Veterans Memorial Sports Complex features ​​​the Veterans Memorial Park Outdoor Pool, the newly renovated Veterans Memorial Park Indoor Ice Arena, lit baseball and softball diamonds, tennis courts, a new meeting room, and a park shelter available to rent. To register online for a program or lessons, please visit our registration system.

​​Veterans Memorial Outdoor Pool will re-open Memorial Day Weekend, May 28, 2016.  

The Veterans Memorial Park Pool features a fan-shaped, zero-depth area with a “raindrop,” interactive water play apparatus, a wheelchair access ramp and a 125-foot waterslide. Minimum height requirement for use of the slide is 42 inches. We offer lounge chairs, picnic area, tennis courts and a shaded deck area.

Summer Season Pass Pricing

Summer season passes are valid from May 28 - Sept. 5, 2016. Season passes can be used at Buhr, Fuller and Veterans Memorial Park pools for all public swim times and tot splashes. Passes may be purchased at all of the pools, the Parks and Recreation Customer Service Center (Cobblestone Farm, 2781 Packard Road), or renewed online at www.a2gov.org/parks.

Veterans Memorial Park Dolphins Swim Team

Be a part of Ann Arbor’s fastest growing swim team - the Dolphins. Join us for a registration session on Wednesday, June 1st at 7:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park meeting room. Our swim team provides an introduction to team competitive swimming, basic skill development and a strengthening program for more advanced swimmers. We provide an opportunity to compete in up to six swim meets and an area-wide conference meet through the Washtenaw Interclub Swimming Conference. This team is open to anyone ages 5 to 17 years old who can swim at least one length of the pool (front crawl). Swimmers with special needs are encouraged to join.

Practices are Monday through Friday mornings. Meets are held Saturday mornings. We offer five practice groups offered between 7 a.m. and noon which begin the week of June 20 and end the last week of July. Pre-season practices are available Monday and Wednesday 7:15-8:30 p.m. from June 6-June 15; $5 per practice/per child. Registration begins Feb 1st and the per child fee is $125, resident/$150, nonresident.

Group Swim Lessons

Group lessons are offered for children from the age of 6 months up. Class size is limited. Ability requirements must be honored unless prior instructor approval is granted. Registration will be accepted for any instructional swim class at any of the city pools during any public swim time, by phone or ONLINE

Tadpoles  For babies ages 6 months to 18 months to become comfortable in the water and learn skills with the help of a parent or adult. 30-minute class. $45, resident/$55, nonresident.

Guppies  Helps toddlers ages 18 months to 3 years old become comfortable in the water with the assistance of a parent or adult, so they are ready to learn to swim. 30-minute class. $45, resident/$55, nonresident.

Minnows  Intro to water skills for tykes who are just starting off. Swimmers will be in the water with only an instructor and need to be at least 4 years old to participate in this class. 30-minute class. $45, resident/$55, nonresident.

Dolphins  Fundamental aquatic skills for those who can fully submerge head, float independently, blow bubbles and feel comfortable in the water. 30-minute class. $45, resident/$55, nonresident.

Mako Sharks  Beginning stroke development for those who can push off the side flutter kick on back/front with arm actions and float on their front and back comfortably. 30-minute class. $45, resident/$55, nonresident.

Hammerhead Sharks  Intermediate stroke development for those who can swim front and back crawl for 10 yards, demonstrate elementary backstroke and enter deep water comfortably. 30-minute class. $45, resident/$55, nonresident.

Tiger Sharks  Full stroke development for those who can swim front crawl for 15 yards with rotary breathing, swim backstroke for 15 yards and tread water for at least 30 seconds. 30-minute class. $45, resident/$55, nonresident.

Otters  Stroke improvement for those who can swim front and back crawl for 20 yards, demonstrate butterfly and breaststroke, and tread water for 60 seconds. 45-minute class. $55, resident/$70, nonresident.

Orcas  Stroke refinement for those who have coordinated front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, and elementary back stroke. 45-minute class. $55, resident/$70, nonresident.

Private Swim Lessons
Individual swim instruction for swimmers ages 3 to adult, are private lessons, 30-minutes long, and customized to meet the needs of the swimming participant. Private lessons are for one participant only. Fee: Half hour $15 resident; $18 nonresident. Please call for additional information and to register. Saturday Summer Splash Days

Mark your calendar for three fun-filled Saturdays this summer June 25, July 23, and Aug. 20. Summer Splash Days are 2-4 p.m. Special activities include water balloon events, water baseball, raft races, and a hula hoop relay. Look for other free and fun activities at Veterans Memorial Park Pool during the summer as signs are posted at the facility. Regular pool admission rates apply.

Ice Arena

Veterans Memorial Indoor Ice Arena is now open for the season.​​​ Veterans Memorial Park Indoor Ice Arena is one of Ann Arbor's most popular recreational facilities. The complex includes a regulation size rink of 85' x 200' with spectator seating for 800. A complete snack bar service and vending are available ​in the main lobby, along with coin-operated lockers and storage units. A standard line of hockey and skating accessories are available in the Pro Shop. Four hockey locker rooms are provided.​​

General Skate :

  • Tuesday/Wednesday: 1:20 – 2:45 p.m.
  • Thursday: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Saturday: 1p.m. – 2:30 p.m.  6 p.m. - 8 p.m. (March Only)
  • Sunday: 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Adult Skate:

  • Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday: 11:10 a.m. – 1:10 p.m.

We offer rental opportunities for parties or special events if you'd like to have the arena all to yourself. 

Hourly Facility Rental 

  • Primetime rental – Resident, $205; Nonresident, $260. 
    Primetime is 4 p.m. – midnight, Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. – midnight on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. 
  • Non-primetime rental – Resident: $185; Nonresident, $230.

One-time Rentals for Special Events 

  • Primetime rental – Resident: $225; Nonresident, $280. 
    Primetime is 4 p.m. – midnight, Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. – midnight on Saturday, Sunday and holidays. 
  • Non-primetime rental – Resident: $200; Nonresident, $250.

Birthday Parties

We offer a great birthday package that allows your group to use our party room and skate during our weekend Public Skating sessions; Saturday and Sundays, 1-2:30 p.m.  The package includes:

  • Use of a party room with tables, chairs, and tablecloth supplied (12:30-2:30 p.m.)
  • Balloons to decorate the party room with
  • Admission to general skate

Skate Sharpening

The custom radius system is available for hockey and figure skates. Immediate service, $6; overnight, $5.

Instructional Skating/Hockey Program                  

The Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation Services Instructional Skating/Hockey Program is an official participant of the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Test Program. This is a series of nationally administered badge tests used to measure skating skills. These tests provide a noncompetitive way of measuring skating skills and a feeling of self-achievement.

All students in our kinderskate, beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes will be tested on the badge skills and awarded badges when the skills have been successfully completed. Badge testing for adults is optional. All participants will have several chances to demonstrate each skill that must be mastered before moving to the next level.

Figure skates are recommended for beginners, however a good pair of hockey skates is acceptable. Skates and helmets are available for use during class at no additional charge. Layering and gloves are recommended. Helmets are required for all beginner/intermediate students (for your safety, no exceptions please).

*All participants must register with the USFSA. A one-time fee of $12 (purchase HERE) is valid from September through August. The fee must be include d with your registration and can be paid for at the time of registration. To sign up for our skating or beginner hockey lessons, visit our convenient online registration system.

Instructional Skating/Hockey Levels 

  • Kinderskate Ages 3 1/2 to 6. No double runners. Helmets are required.
  • Beginner  Ages 5 to 9. Helmets are required. No experience necessary.
  • Beginner & Intermediate Ages 6 (or first grade) to 15. Helmets are required. No experience necessary, or may possess U.S. Figure Skating Basic Badges 1 or 2.
  • Beginning Hockey Skating Skills Ages 6 to 12. Previous experience recommended or Basic 1 Badge. No equipment necessary. Sticks and pucks will not be used. Helmets are required. Class will focus on skating skills appropriate for hockey play.
  • Advanced Age 6 to 16. Minimum of U.S. Figure Skating Basic 3 Badge.
  • Adult Ages 16 and older. All levels of ability

Veterans Memorial Hockey Leagues

Adult A, B, C, & D Hockey Leagues

Play is governed by NHL/MAHA regulations. Games are played at Veterans Memorial Park Ice Arena and Buhr Park Outdoor Ice Arena. No body checking is allowed. The season runs from mid September through late April. The team fee is $5,998. Women Only MACRHL League

Friday evenings, September to May. This league is meant for fun/exercise in a competitive setting. Beginners are welcome. For more details, go to www.macrhl.org.

Past Masters

For age 55+, or goalies of any age, at Veterans Memorial Park Ice Arena. Informal play on Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons. No body checking is allowed. First 24 players and two goalies per session may attend. Mondays, Sept. 14 to April 25 from 10 – 11 a.m. and Thursdays, Sept. 17 to April 28 from 2:10 – 3:10 p.m. Fees: $10 per visit or $273 season. Goalies free.

No School Days/Vacations

During the Ann Arbor Public Schools winter/spring vacations and other days that school is not in session, public skating is offered Monday- Friday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.​​


Meeting Room

Looking for a place to host a birthday party, meeting or event? ​​​​Ann Arbor Skatepark at Veterans Memorial Park

The City of Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation Services, Friends of the Ann Arbor Skatepark, Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and​ Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office broke ground in 2013 on a 30,000-square-foot, world class facility that is free for the public to use and now open at Veterans Memorial Park (2150 Jackson Road). Skateboarders will enjoy features such as kidney pools from 5 to 9.5 feet deep, a snake run, clover and flow bowls and a rock ride. ​
