6th Annual A²ZERO Week

May 31st  - June 6th, 2026

Join the Office of Sustainability & Innovations, local businesses and organizations, and residents for a week-long celebration of climate solutions and community in Ann Arbor!

In June 2020, the City's plan to achieve a just transit​ion to community-wide carbon neutrality, known as A2ZERO​, was unanimously adopted by City Council. Each year, the Office of Sustainability and Innovations organizes A2ZERO Week to commemorate the passing of the plan. Stop by Taste of Ann Arbor on May 31st from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm to savor the flavor of Ann Arbor's local restaurants! This annual event showcases Ann Arbor's vibrant food scene. Local restaurants will be popping up on Main and Liberty Streets selling signature small bites. OSI will be on site giving away free reusable silverware kits and information about A2ZERO.

Stop by Common Cycle's open shop hours and chat about A2ZERO Programming while getting your bike ready for summer. Volunteers at these open hours range from experienced mechanics to interested newbies, and help all kinds of cyclists fix all kinds of bikes. Assistance from CC volunteers and use of tools is free, but donations are welcome.

Explore a sustainable, entirely electric-powered home. A brief tour of the home will feature a close-up look at rooftop solar, battery storage, a heat pump, EV charging, and more! The homeowner, a certified electric coach by Rewiring America, will be available to discuss their 14-year electrification journey and lessons learned along the way. Wherever your household is on its own electrification journey, we encourage you to bring questions!

We've renamed the Cargo Bike Rally and made it more inclusive of transport modes! Test ride electric bicycles, cargo bikes, and scooters and dance to live music. An AAATA bus will be onsite to show how to load your bike or simply hop aboard and learn to ride transit. Enjoy a free ice cream treat, face painting, games, and activities for kids, plus live music by the Green Things Trio.

Monday, June 1st

Take a group ride around the Bikeway in Downtown Ann Arbor. Learn how to use the protected bikeway, understand turn boxes, and feel more confident on your next trip! No registration required.

In honor of the 6th anniversary of the passing of the A2ZERO Plan, Mayor Taylor will pass a proclamation naming the first full week of June 2026, as "A2ZERO Week".

See Ann Arbor's Sustainable Energy Utility being built, and learn more about this innovation from Executive Director Shoshannah Lenski. The tour will meet at the Bryant Community Center and explore the active projects in the neighborhood. Wear walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.

Join the Office of Sustainability & Innovations for a guided version of the Kerrytown neighborhood tree walk, beginning at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market! Learn about the trees in the neighborhood, some of the history they've witnessed, and the benefits they provide to our community. Bring sunscreen and water and be prepared to learn all about Kerrytown’s trees! Please note that this event is active and will involve extended periods of standing and walking on paved, but occasionally uneven, surfaces. Can't make this guided version of the tree walk? Join the Office of Sustainability & Innovations, Argus Farm Stop, and the Citizen's Climate Lobby for Argus' twice monthly 'Trivia with Terry' night at the Packard Cafe - with an A2ZERO twist! Bring your friends and family to create a team or come by yourself and join a team to tackle our climate-themed trivia questions. Plus, learn about how all three organizations are working to advance climate action. This event has limited seating, so we recommend arriving early!

Join the Ann Arbor Sustainable Food Business Coalition for a behind-the-scenes walking tour of local businesses leading the way in making Ann Arbor’s food & beverage industry more sustainable. During this guided tour, hosted by Kate McCabe and Chef Max Sussman (the dynamic duo behind Bev’s Bagels and Bog & Thunder), attendees will get an inside look at what it takes to put food on our plates while prioritizing intentional sourcing, energy-efficient operations, and zero waste goals. Plan to meet at the A²ZERO table at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market (315 Detroit Street) and will leave promptly at 11:00 am. Total walking distance: 1 mile, with extended stops along the way.

Location: County Farm Park | 2230 Platt Rd

Join naturalist Elle Bogle and mindfulness instructor Julie Woodward for a guided hike at County Farm Park. Blending forest bathing with naturalist insight, this experience invites you to slow down, engage your senses, and discover the beauty and rhythms of the season. Hike takes place at a moderate pace for 1-2 miles total. Hikers come prepared and dressed for the weather.

Learn about our work to advance A2ZERO, see how Bløm is integrating sustainability into their operations, and challenge your friends, family, or someone you've just met to one of our fun climate-themed board games. Join in the celebration of climate action excellence and achievement from leading community members. These community members' actions may range big and small, but their impact is the same: huge, and absolutely necessary to achieve Ann Arbor's A2ZERO 2030 Carbon Neutrality goals. Join us for this celebration with light refreshments, remarks from Mayor Taylor, and recognition of Ann Arbor's climate leadership.

Ever wondered how Michigan protects animals, who steps in when something goes wrong, and how well the system works? Join Attorneys for Animals for a frank evaluation of Michigan's animal protection laws, the agencies that enforce them, and how cruelty and neglect is addressed in the state. We'll break down key legal terms, explore the difference between neglect and cruelty, and touch on how federal law fits in. It's an engaging overview of Michigan's animal protection laws, highlighting what's working and what advocates still need to do. Opening remarks from the City of Ann Arbor's Office of Sustainability & Innovations highlight how donating used textiles, such as blankets, contributes to climate action and helps animals.

Saturday, June 6th

The Washtenaw County Conservation District's Native Plant Expo & Marketplace (NPEM) offers one convenient location to shop for Michigan native plants from several Michigan native plant growers, learn how to establish and maintain native landscapes, and connect with companies specializing in planning native landscapes for residents in Washtenaw County and the surrounding areas. A2ZERO is sponsoring the NPEM this year and will have a booth - so be sure to stop by and learn about our work with natural features and how it advances climate action.

Spring cleaning is the perfect way to get ready for this community-led swap! Join First United Methodist Church for their annual Drop & Swap event. Pre-event item drop-off is available June 5th from 8am-5pm and June 6th 8am-9am. Swap is June 6th from 9am-12pm.
