Q. Define reasonable control (leash law).
Must be secured by a leash held by the owner or the owner's agent.
Must be secured by a leash which is attached to a stationary object and

Sidewalks and lawn extensions are public. Dogs should not be left tied outside stores and restaurants while the owners are inside. All animal control regulations apply to parks
Q. What is a noise nuisance?
If it is barking, howling, meowing, squawking or making other sounds, frequently or for a continued duration, which annoys, endangers, injures or disturbs a person of normal sensitivities on premises other than that occupied by the owner of the animal.
Q. What is a sanitation nuisance?
Any unsanitary conditions resulting from animal droppings, food waste, debris, or any other thing to cause vermin infestation, odors, or disease hazards.
Q. Can we get a ticket if we don't clean up after our dog (scoop law)?
Yes, if a dog (except for leader dogs for the blind) discharges it's feces on property other than that of it's owner and the owner does not immediately remove such feces a ticket can be issued.
Q. What about dog licenses?
An owner can be issued a violation if the dog is over 6 months old and is not currently licensed or is not wearing a license tag. Licenses can be obtained from the city Clerk's office. Bring in paperwork from the rabies vaccination. Licenses expire on June 30th of the second year following the issuance of the license. Q. What should I do if I get bitten by an animal?

All wounds should be washed immediately with soap and water.

The victim should contact their doctor or medical facility as soon as possible.

A report should be made with the Ann Arbor Police Department if it occurred with in the city limits.

Obtain owner information or contain the animal if possible
Note: There is a bite inspection fee of $30.
Procedures to release an impounded dog:
If the dog is not wearing a current Ann Arbor dog license, owner will need proof of current rabies vaccination and a dog license prior to release. If the dog needs a rabies vaccination, the owner will need to make arrangements with the Humane Society veterinarian prior to release. The owner should bring the above paperwork to the Ann Arbor Police Department front desk at city hall, 301 E. Huron.
There is a $65 impoundment fee per dog. There may be a ticket based on the violation. The owner will be given paperwork for the dogs release. The owner will then have to pick the dog up at the Humane Society, 3100 Cherry Hill Road. The Humane Society will charge fees based on the length of time the dog is at there.

Other information
If the owner of a cat older than 6 months fails to have it at all times immunized against rabies - the owner would be in violation of the city ordinance and a ticket may be issued.
City ordinance states that no person shall keep or house any animals or domestic fowl within the city except dogs, cats, rabbits, canaries or small animals commonly classified as pets which are customarily kept or housed inside dwellings as household pets.
A patrol officer will respond to calls based on priority and availability. They will provide assistance with certain types of problems. They do not remove skunks or bats. Citizens can locate pest control services (wildlife, bees, wasps, etc) in the yellow pages. Live traps can be rented or purchased at many hardware stores, bird or pet supply stores in the area.
