General Information and Procedures

Chapter 93, Section 7:403 of the Ann Arbor Code of Ordinances (pdf) requires an annual alarm connection permit to be obtained in order to operate any home or business security system alarm that terminates directly or indirectly through an alarm company's central monitoring station at the Ann Arbor Police Department.

The alarm connection permit requires you to provide at least three names, addresses and telephone numbers for individuals who can be contacted day or night and have the ability to turn off your business or home security system in your absence.

It should be noted that the  Ann Arbor City Code requires the alarm connection permit holder to pay all "false alarm" fees charged pursuant to Chapter 93.

If the information you provided us on your alarm connection permit application changes, please update your information online by clicking here or fill out a new alarm connection permit application (PDF) and check the box at the top of the form that states, "UPDATING Information" and mail to: City of Ann Arbor/Alarms, PO Box 511218, Livonia, MI 48151.  If you have any questions please call 734-619-0550.
