The Ann Arbor Water Treatment Plant has a newly constructed laboratory facility staffed by 3 full time laboratory technicians under the supervision of the plants Water Quality Manager. Our laboratory is certified by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for performing drinking water analyses for compliance with regulations under the Safe Drinking Water Act. Certification requires the laboratory, among other things, to successfully analyze annual performance evaluation samples for regulated contaminants and to pass a through on-site inspection by a MDEQ approved certification officer. The education and experience of the lab staff are also critical to obtaining certification. Currently, all full-time lab personnel have at least a Bachelor of Science degree.
In total, the lab staff and operators perform over 150,000 analyses of our drinking water annually. Safe, quality water is our highest priority here at the WTP.
