 Single Occupancy Vehicle Commutes 

 

 

 

Driving alone is the most common type of commute among Ann Arbor workers. According to the U.S. Census, the percentage  of Single Occupancy Vehicle (SOV) commute trips increased from 58% of total trips in 1980 to 62.6% of total trips in 2000. The American Community Survey estimates 59.8-65.8% of commuters drove to work alone between 2005 and 2007.

What is a single occupancy vehicle commute?

A single occupancy vehicle commute is a trip to or from work by an individual alone in a car, truck or van. The category ‘‘Drove alone,’’ includes people who usually drove alone to work as well as people who were driven to work by someone who then drove back home or to a nonwork destination.
