The American Community Survey estimates 6.5% of Ann Arbor commuters carpooled in 2007. Overall, the number of carpooling commuters has declined since 1990 when 9.2% of commuters carpooled. The percentage of Ann Arbor commuters that carpool is less than the state and national average.

What is a carpool commute?

For the American Community Survey, a carpool commute is one in which two or more people rode to work in the vehicle (either car, truck or van) during the reference week.

How does carpooling affect the Ann Arbor environment?

Carpooling reduces the total amount of vehicles on the road, reducing overall greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficiency of getting to work.
