Project Overview
This project will consist of reconstructing and repaving of the intersection, and replacing some curb and gutter, sidewalk ramps, and storm sewer. Work will occur in the late spring and early summer, and will be done in three phases as described in the Traffic Impacts section below.
Anticipated Schedule
The project is currently underway and is scheduled to be fully completed by July 15th, 2008.
Traffic Impact
The work will occur in three Phases, and will have the following impact on traffic patterns during each phase:
NOTE: Phase II and Phase III have been switched from the original plan.
PHASE I: Work will occur on the north side of westbound Eisenhower through the South Main intersection. During this phase, South Main Street will be closed at Eisenhower. Traffic at the South Main and Ann Arbor-Saline Road intersection will be detoured southbound on Ann Arbor-Saline Road to eastbound Eisenhower Parkway. Traffic on Eisenhower will be maintained in both directions (one lane westbound, and two lanes eastbound). COMPLETED 5/28/08
PHASE II: Work will occur in the middle of the intersection, and will include the north lane on eastbound Eisenhower and the south lane on westbound Eisenhower through the South Main intersection. During this phase, traffic exiting the mall area at this intersection will be required to make a right turn only – traffic desiring to head westbound on Eisenhower or northbound on South Main will need to make a “Michigan Left” at the first turnaround on Eisenhower east of the intersection. Traffic on Eisenhower will be maintained in both directions during this phase (two lanes in each direction). Expected duration for Phase II: 3-4 weeks. COMPLETED 6/21/08
PHASE III: Work will occur on the south side of eastbound Eisenhower through the South Main intersection. During this phase, the connection between Eisenhower Parkway and Briarwood Circle south of the intersection will be closed. Traffic entering and existing the mall area during this phase will use the next exit/entrance to the east along Briarwood Circle. Traffic on Eisenhower will be maintained in both directions (two lanes westbound, and one lane eastbound). Expected duration for Phase III: 3-4 weeks. Expected completion date: COMPLETED 7/14/08
Funding
This project is funded primarily by the 2007-2011 Street Resurfacing Millage approved by voters in 2006.
