Project Overview
The purpose of this project is to replace the majority of the water main in the Arbor Oaks Subdivision (also known as the Bryant Area). The existing water main in this subdivision is in poor condition and has experienced multiple breaks over the past few years.
Upon completion of the water main installation, the streets on which the water main was replaced will also be resurfaced, providing a smooth new pavement in the subdivision once the project is completed.
The streets included in this project are as follows:
| Champagne Drive |
Faust Ct. |
| Hemlock Drive |
Trowbridge Ct. |
| Stratton Ct. |
Kilbrennan Ct. |
| Downing Ct. |
East Eden Ct. |
| Englewood Ct. |
West Eden Ct. |
| Manitou Ct. |
Rockland Ct |
| Metroview Ct. |
Plainview Ct. |

Construction for this project will be performed by Douglas N. Higgins, Inc. of Ann Arbor, Michigan, as well as their various subcontractors.
Schedule
Work on the water main portion of the project began on April 11, 2011. The work will proceed in stages though the neighborhood and is expected to be completed by the end of November of 2011.
As of September 1, all of the new water main has been placed, the last section of which is currently being tested. All residents should have their water services transferred to the new main by mid-September.
New pavement has currently been placed at the following locations:
| Hemlock Drive |
Kilbrennan Ct. |
| Plainview Ct. |
Rockland Ct. |
| Faust Ct. |
Trowbridge Ct. |
| East Eden Ct. |
West Eden Ct. |
| Champagne Drive(Stone School to Santa Rosa |
|
| Champagne Drive(Faust to Shadowood) |
|
One additional layer of asphalt has yet to be placed at these locations. The final layer of asphalt will likely be placed all at once at the end of the project.
Road work will be continuing on the remainder of the project through September and October, with the project scheduled to be completed by the middle of November.
Impact on Traffic & Local Residents
During construction, there will be intermittent lane closures and road closures in order to allow construction to proceed.
As a result of the construction activities, it will be necessary for our contractor to post “No Parking” signs on the street in the area where they are currently working, so that work can proceed in a timely manner. The “No Parking” will be in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. We will make every attempt to keep areas of on-street parking available, but we encourage residents to keep vehicles in their driveways as much as possible.
Access to residences will be maintained throughout the construction, with the exception of several days when the road will be closed for paving or concrete is being placed in front of driveways. Notifications will be given to residents prior to these times. Construction will be staged such that on street parking will be available on an adjacent street while your individual street is being worked on. During the project, we suggest parking vehicles in driveways as much as possible to keep them off the streets.
In some cases, the concrete curb may need to be replaced in front of your driveway. One day before restricting access to a driveway to perform this work, the contractor will leave a notice at your door. Once access to a driveway is restricted, the driveway will remain inaccessible for 3 to 4 days while the concrete cures. If, due to a special need, access to your driveway must be maintained, please contact us in advance.
Garbage/recycling collection, utility services, and mail delivery will be maintained throughout the project. The contractor may need to place temporary mailboxes on the opposite side of the street if their construction activities are blocking your normal mailbox location.
Water service will be maintained during construction, except for brief periods when the new water main is tied in to the existing main, and when house services are transferred to the new main. You will receive written notice two days before these shutoffs. After each water shut down, please run the cold water in your faucets for several minutes until the water is clear.
