Packard Road and Hill Street Resurfacing Project

This site is was updated on May 14, 2012.

Project Update

The Contractor has completed testing of a portion of the new water main and will be placing the first 500 feet of the new water main into service this week.   A water main shut down is scheduled for Monday, May 14th and Tuesday, May 15th.  Once the new section of water main is placed into service the drive approaches and sidewalk will be replaced on the northside of Packard between Platt and Elmwood.   In addition, the rest of the water main will continue to be installed on the east end of the project.

We have added some additional signs to the construction area, inorder to discourage motorists from using side streets during construction.   In addition, we have requested additional patrols by the police to reduce speeding.

Drivers seeking alternative routes through side streets, is not uncommon at the beginning of a construction project.   Drivers will soon find an alternative route on a major street.   We will continue to monitor the traffic patterns and make additional modifications to the construction signing to discourage the use of side streets.

Construction Impacts

Local access for vehicular traffic and pedestrian traffic will be maintained during the majority of the project, except for the occasions when pedestrian traffic will be temporarily restricted within the construction work zone.

Garbage/recycling collection, utility services, and mail delivery will be maintained throughout the project. The contractor may need to place temporary mailboxes at a alternative location, if their construction activities are blocking your normal mailbox location.

In some cases, the concrete curb or drive approach may need to be replaced in front of driveways along Packard Road or Hill Street. One day before restricting access to a driveway to perform this work, the contractor will leave a notice at your door. Once access to a driveway is restricted, the driveway will remain inaccessible for 3 to 4 days while the concrete cures. If, due to a special need, access to your driveway must be maintained, please contact us in advance.

As a result of the construction activities, service to some of the AATA bus stops adjacent to the construction area may be interrupted.

Description

This project includes the installation of new 12-inch ductile iron pipe water main within Packard Street, from Platt Road to just east of Burton Road.  After the completion of the water main installation, the full width of Packard Street will be repaved.  This work is expected to begin on or before April 1, 2012 and be completed on or before August 31, 2012.

In addition, Hill Street will be resurfaced.

The contractor on this project will be C & D Hughes, Inc. of Charlotte, Michigan, as well as their various subcontractors.
