CITY COMPOST CARTS AVAILABLE

The city sells three sizes of optional compost carts:  96, 64, and 35 gallon carts.  The compost carts are described below. City Council action on July 7, 2007, allows grass clippings to be placed in compost carts (but will not be accepted in paper yard waste bags).

COMPOST CAN PICKUPS ENDING

  • Effective Tuesday, July 1, 2008, 30-35 gallon resident-supplied compost cans will no longer be collected from curbside-serviced locations.

  • Unwanted empty compost cans will be picked up by the city on normal curbside trash collection routes at no additional charge the week of September 15-19, 2008.

  • Paper bags and bundled brush will continue to be accepted--in addition to compost carts--for holding acceptable compostable materials. See the compost program page for full details.

  • What can you do with old trashcans?

  • The city will pick up your old cans at no charge the week of September 15-19, 2008. Please leave unwanted empty 30-35 gallon cans at the curb on your normal solid waste collection day. Efforts will be made to reuse or recycle the old cans.

  • Alternatively, you may choose to reuse the cans at home for storage of birdseed, garden or sport equipment, mulches, etc. Some residents may wish to use cans for on-site yard waste collection in your yard, and empty the cans into the wheeled cart for curbside collection. A diagram of converting usable trash cans into rain barrels is posted below under "additional information."

PRE-ORDERED COMPOST CART DELIVERY SCHEDULE

  • Anyone who has not recieved their pre-ordered cart by June 25 should call the Customer Service Center during business hours at (734) 994-2807, or send an e-mail to customerservice@a2gov.org.
