 Off-Campus Student Guide

The City of Ann Arbor Public Services Area reminds residents in the University of Michigan off-campus areas that all trash items must be properly managed for disposal, especially during student turnover times. If trash materials are set out too early, or are incorrectly prepared, the resident will be subject to city fines and cleanup fees.

All refuse must be contained in trash carts or dumpsters.  Any loose trash or abandoned furniture, mattresses, etc. left at the curb will be ticketed and fined. Remember to pick up litter, beverage cups, newspapers, etc.  around your home.

All Ann Arbor residents are entitled to free recycling collection carts and weekly pickups from any where you live within the city limits! The attached letter explains the city's code requirements (2-page pdf). Ask your property manager about your recycling options. Recycling questions are handled by the city's contracted recycling service, the nonprofit Recycle Ann Arbor.

Questions about your collection day, request for recycling bins, or other inquiries? Log onto the 24-hour Customer Response System to enter your question by address.

PLEASE NOTE:  Please contact local haulers for your bulk disposal needs or use the Drop-Off Station, 2950 E. Ellsworth, (734) 971-7400, www.recycleannarbor.org.

Don’t block dumpsters or recycling carts with vehicles or debris.

Violations of these codes are charged a minimum $100 cleanup fee plus fines up to $1000
per citation.
