Records

Planning & Development Services maintains records on permitted activity in the City, including licenses, permits, blueprints, plans, and other construction documents.  Archival information is retained on microfilm and is available for review during regular business hours. Copies are available for $.25 per page.  Zoning and floodplain maps are also available for review.

Although available information varies widely, records are not generally as complete prior to 1963.  For historical information, consult the Historic Preservation Coordinator, Jill Thacher - (734) 994-2797.

Permits and Licenses and Fees

The Permit Desk issues permits primarily related to construction activity as well as various other activities (see below).  In addition this desk conducts exams and issues licenses for workers in various skilled construction occupations, including appliance and sewer installers, journey and master electricians.

Construction permits are obtained by submitting an appropriate application form together with two drawings of the proposed work.  Applications are reviewed for compliance with code and safety requirements.

Inspection Scheduling and Results

The Planning & Development Services Unit has implemented a new development review and inspection services software called TRAKiT.  Benefits of the new system include:

  • 24/7 access to inspection results, look up permits online or check registration with the City at www.a2gov.org/trakit
  • Automated inspection scheduling by calling 734-994-2674
  • Streamlined permitting process
