2013 Calendar of Annual Volunteer Events

  Argo Canoe Livery Set Up, Sunday, April 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Each year we have a spring setup day during which we clean and prep our facility for opening. Help paint paddle boats, organize supplies and spruce up the facility. Join us to help make our canoe livery the best.

Celebrate Earth Day by Volunteering, April 20 and 21

Join us for our Third annual Earth Day Volunteer Hunt, when we choose five Ann Arbor recreation facilities to volunteer over a two-day event. At each location you will receive a treasure as a small token of our thanks for your service. Each location will feature a different piece of GIVE365 swag!

Saturday, April 20,

10 to 11 a.m. Veterans Memorial Park Trash-a-thon

noon to 2 p.m. Fuller Park Pool Flower Bed Planting

Summer is coming and each year we have a summer setup day during which we clean and prep our facility for our Memorial weekend opening. Join us to help paint, pick weeds, wax the slide, hang signage and clean up to make our pool and facility the best it can be.

Splash Days at Veterans, Fuller and Buhr Pool Park Pools

Join us for a fun-filled volunteer opportunity leading games and activities for kids both in and out of the water at one of our three pools. Set up and take down times are included, and not all volunteers will need to know how to swim. We are looking for people who are comfortable interacting with children and the public. Bring a bathing suit for water activities (one-piece suits preferred). Splash days/times are below. If you are interested in volunteering, contact us for more information.

Third Annual Volunteer Week

Sunday, July 7, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Be a part of the Gallup Park Painting Project as all of the picnic tables get a fresh coat of paint. Meet us on the south side of the wooden bridge and make sure to wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on!

Thursday, July 11, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Join us as we Freshin’ Up Fuller. We will be pulling weeds, painting curbs and beautifying the parking lot entrance. Be ready to get your hands dirty.

Saturday, July 13, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Join us at Buhr Park Pool for a funfilled volunteer opportunity leading games and activities for kids both in and out of the water. Set-up and take-down times are included, and not all volunteers will need to know how to swim. We are looking for people who are comfortable interacting with children and the public. Please bring a bathing suit for water based activities (one-piece swim suits preferred) .

Huron River Day, Sunday, July 14

Volunteer for the annual Huron River Day event! The event takes place at Gallup park, and volunteers are needed in two shifts 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with everything from set-up and take down to most, importantly, in the following areas:

Bike corral – Assist the with free valet bike parking. Duties will include greeting bikers, maintaining bike security, and returning the bikes to their owners.

Fishing Station – Assist children in learning how to fish. Duties include helping kids set up fishing poles, worming hooks and releasing fish that are caught.

Traffic Direction – Duties will include assisting with directing traffic in the parking lot, helping drivers to find available parking, and notifying event planners when parking lot is full.

Children’s Tent Activities – Assist in leading children’s activities geared toward river life. Duties will include helping children complete activities, directing attendees to available activities, and providing general event information.

Fun Photo Station - Duties will include taking photos of patrons dressed up in a canoe. This will be a photobooth-style experience, so volunteers will help with props and transitioning patrons.

Golf Tournaments at Leslie Park and Huron Hill Golf Courses

Join us as we help to make the city golf tournaments a great experience for all involved. We are looking for volunteers to help greet golfers, hand out water throughout the course, and assist staff throughout the tournament. Volunteers will be asked to commit to one full volunteer shift throughout the tournament but are welcome to volunteer as much as you like! Volunteer shifts will generally be from 7 to 10:30 a.m.; 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; 1p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and 4 to 7 p.m. each tournament day.

City Men’s Championship at Leslie Park Golf Course, July 19-21

Herb Fowler Jr. Championship at Huron Hills Golf Course, July 31-Aug.2.

City Senior Championship at Leslie Park Golf Course, Aug. 17-18.

Ann Arbor Senior Center, Sunday, July 21, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Join us at the Ann Arbor Senior Center as we celebrate the summer by bringing together families, seniors, barbecue, music and fun! Volunteers will lead games and activities for the young and young at heart, assist with cooking and help make sure that all who attend have a great time. Set-up and take down times are included and volunteers are asked to meet in the Senior Center parking lot upon arrival. We are looking for people who are comfortable interacting with children and the public.

Farmers Market Birthday, Saturday, Aug. 3, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Join us at The Farmer’s Market for a fun-filled volunteer opportunity leading games and activities for kids to celebrate the market’s 94th birthday! Set-up and take-down times are included, and volunteers are asked to meet outside of the market office upon arrival. We are looking for people who are comfortable interacting with children and the public.
