In September 2006, City Council established the Ann Arbor Discovering Downtown (A2D2) initiative to implement 5 high priority recommendations of the Downtown Development Strategies Project.
In 2007, advisory committees for each of the 5 high priority actions developed recommendations for changes to city codes and policies. These recommendations have been approved by City Council and implementation is now underway. To learn more, click on the links below.
Council established a steering committee to work with staff to ensure ongoing communication regarding the implementation plan. The Ann Arbor Discovering Downtown Steering Committee included Marcia Higgins (City Council), Evan Pratt (Planning Commission), and Roger Hewitt (Downtown Development Authority).
Noting that 4 of the 5 high priority actions had been completed by the end of 2009, Council dissolved the Steering Committee on January 19, 2010. A special task force to complete the Downtown Design Guidelines initiative was established and 7 members were appointed on February 1, 2010.
