As part of Ann Arbor's Moving Together Toward Vision Zero Comprehensive Transportation Plan, the city has developed Quick Build projects.

Cities around the country are using quick-builds to create safer streets much faster than typical processes allow. With quick-builds, cities can introduce new street designs and gather feedback, evaluate the impact of different tools, and work with the community to refine a project’s final design.

The quick build presentation (PDF) highlights each quick-build project's primary safety concerns, key objectives and strategies that the projects will address.

Survey Report- This report provides summary information collected as part of the evaluation process for the Quick Build projects completed in 2023. Quick Build Final Report June 2024.pdf

Bump outs                                                 Hardened centerlines                        Combined turn/bike lane

What is a bump out? Bump outs are used to shorten the crossing distance for pedestrians and to slow turning movements of vehicles, the black city posts are used to reinforce the pavement markings.         What is a hardened centerline? Hardened centerlines are used to discourage left-turning vehicles from crossing over the centerline of the receiving street, forcing a tighter and slower turn.     What is a combined bike lane/turn lane? A combined bike lane/turn lane places a suggested bike lane within the inside portion of a dedicated motor vehicle turn lane. This treatment encourages motorists to yield to bicyclists when crossing into the narrow right-turn lane and reduces the risk of 'right hook' collisions at intersections.

Left turn box for bikes                            Green Pavement Markings

What is a left turn box for bikes? Separates turning bicyclists from through bicyclists and improves bicyclist ability to safely and comfortably make left turns.           What is green pain used for? Green Paint is used on city streets to increase the visibility of people who bike. It is used to increase people who bikes comfort through clearly delineated spaces.
